Armour of God

Armour of God:

Ephesians 6:14–18 (NLT) Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. 15 For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. 16 In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. 17 Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. 18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.

Paul knows that the real battles and dangers we face are not against flesh and blood. The enemies we see are real enough, but they are animated by spiritual forces of darkness that stay strategically hidden from view. These powers often reveal themselves in institutional evils—genocide, terror, tyranny, and oppression as well as in personal attacks on marriage, health, finances and relationships, DV, bullying and abuse—but the weapons needed to combat them are not earthly weapons at all. What is needed, Apostle Paul advises, is to stand firm in God’s Power and to suit up in the full armour of God. Although the devil and his demon armies are destined for destruction, they are serious threats now and must be resisted and beaten back. For Paul, the best offensive weapons we have are the Word of God and prayer.

2 Corinthians 10:3–5 (NLT) We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do. 4 We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. 5 We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.

Deuteronomy 3:22 (NRSV) Do not fear them, for it is the Lord your God Who fights for you.

Remember this day that the battle we face may be more about what is unseen than what we see before us. And when we resist the enemy, God's Word tells us he has to flee.

James 4:7 (NRSV) Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Stand strong!

You're never alone!

He loves you!

He fights for you!
